How to arrange a living room with a bedroom in a small apartment?

The main slogan here is “functionality”. Individual rooms (or one room – in the case of a studio apartment) should fulfill at least several roles, thanks to which a small apartment will become completely self-sufficient. Thus, the hall is also a perfectly designed storage space and dressing room, the kitchen is a home office, and the living room – is a comfortable bedroom.

Living room with a sleeping function: how to make it comfortable?

There are at least several ways to turn your living room into a relaxation zone – dedicated to blissful rest and sleep. One of them is a sofa with a sleeping function, with which we equip our small apartments on a large scale. This is a practical solution: during the day the living room is a living room, and in the evening a few minutes are enough to arrange a bedroom here. Thanks to this, we keep the room in perfect order and prevent formal dissonance.

However, if we have a slightly larger space, i.e. one room designed on an open plan, we can afford a functional and visual separation of the rest area and the sleeping area. All kinds of partitions, incomplete partitions and semi-transparent sliding doors will help us with this. They will separate the two sectors from each other and provide us with a certain amount of intimacy. A screen or a shelf with books and knick-knacks will also pass the exam. We can also use characteristic elements of the interior, such as recesses, level changes, or stairs.

Living room with a bedroom: choose colors

Of course, in such a small interior that fulfills at least several functions, the colors of the walls are the key. Due to the limited space, it is worth reaching for bright, subdued, blurred tones that will visually enlarge the room. The basis here is derivatives of white (classic, snow-white shades could cool the interior too much), e.g. White Sails or a Handful of Shells from the Dulux World Colors palette, subtle grays (for example Unwavering Gray) and fleeting blues (maybe Flawless Blue from Dulux EasyCare?).

On the other hand, we do not have to limit ourselves only to these tones. A whole range of delicate greens (eg Permanent Green), shades of purple (like Heather Dawn) or pink (Pure Pink) is open to us.

One shade or composition of colors?

Let’s consider whether it is advisable to visually emphasize individual functions performed in one room. Should we single out the home office sector? Does the area with a bed or a sofa require a color separation? There is no one-size-fits-all answer here. It all depends on the specifics of the interior. If we are dealing with a rather small room that does not reveal its bedroom function during the day, let’s focus on expressive, though unobtrusive details: a contrasting shade behind the sofa (for example First Class Garnet), a different color of the walls behind the shelves (burgundy, or maybe saturated bronze?), etc. In the case of a larger, open interior with clearly emphasized sectors, we can already afford more, e.g. paint the wall behind the bed in a more intense shade, and even divide the room into two sectors using the colors of the walls.

Even a small one, even a tight one, can be very comfortable! Let’s figure out how to organize several functions in one space, also with the help of wall colors.
