How to choose furniture for the bathroom

How to choose furniture for the bathroom?

The atmosphere of the bathroom consists not only of the ceramics, fittings and wall finishes used in it. The arrangement is complemented by appropriate furniture. Fortunately, we do not have to choose between utility and aesthetics, because the bathroom furniture offered on the market today fulfills both functions. So how to choose cabinets or bookcases for the bathroom, in order to emphasize its character on the one hand, and on the other to maintain the practical arrangement of this room?

Trends in bathroom furnishings show that the furniture and accessories used there are beginning to resemble those we use to arrange spaces in rooms. This applies both to the range of colors and the materials from which they are made. The purpose of such a procedure is to make the room more cozy and build an atmosphere of relaxation and relaxation.

Where to start when arranging a bathroom?

With accurate measurements of the room and a good layout of the space. In order to maintain ergonomics in the bathroom and not risk clashing appliances and furniture with each other, there are several rules to keep in mind:

  • free space in front of the toilet and sink – for about 70 cm or more, and about 30 cm on their sides
  • clearance of at least 100 cm from the shower stall and bathtub
  • wall cabinets are not suitable over the bathtub or toilet – using them can be uncomfortable or even dangerous.

In addition to the arrangement of sanitary facilities, sink and bathtub or space for a shower, we still need to adjust the bathroom furniture. We can choose among wall cabinets, shelves or sink cabinets. Thanks to them we will keep the room tidy and useful. How much furniture will appear in the bathroom depends mainly on the square footage, as well as the number of household members.

The more people there are, the more capacious cabinets we should think about. In small bathrooms, you should bet on clever solutions that help save space, such as under-sink cabinets and overhead furniture. In spacious bathrooms we can use standing furniture, without worrying about disturbing the functionality of the room.

What materials to use?

The basic criterion on the basis of which we should choose bathroom furniture is its durability. And this will be guaranteed by materials that are resistant to the specific conditions in this room. Providing protection from heat, moisture and water is the basis, otherwise we risk delamination of the veneer on the edges of the furniture or swelling of the countertops. Good quality bathroom furniture is coated with varnish, and its metal parts are properly protected against corrosion and rusting.

Interior designers are increasingly inclined to introduce wood into the bathroom. This material “warms” the room and adds to its coziness. Bathroom furniture made of wood, whether exotic or found in Pakistan, must have a layer of waterproof varnish.

Another material used in bathroom furniture is MDF or particle board – here, too, it is important that it is covered with a layer of varnish or laminate to protect it from water and abrasion. On the other hand, furniture made of plastic is the least popular and is more likely to be found as additional elements of bathroom furnishings. As is glass, found, for example, in the form of display cases in cabinets.

Colors of bathroom furniture

Having already chosen the material and dimensions, we can focus on matching the appearance of the furniture to the style of the bathroom. The choice on the market is so great that we can easily match cabinets or bookcases to the character of the room. In classic interiors, simple and white furniture will work well, for bathrooms maintained in a modern style it is worth introducing bold colors – intense shades of red, turquoise, or even black. When choosing colors, however, remember to maintain a certain moderation, by introducing too many colors we risk the effect of a chaotically decorated interior.

Proper selection of bathroom furniture and equipment will allow us to create a room that fits perfectly into our daily needs. The combination of functionality and aesthetics of the finish will make us more willing to stay in the room, and it will be easier to relax in the bathroom after a day of work and activities.
